Victor’s Story
In the afternoon of September 15, 2006, Victor Gray, a young pastor living and working in rural North Carolina, walked the last unaided steps of his life. Victor was driving a small truck on an interstate highway. Like many people, he carried a heavy load of concerns…concerns about things that didn’t matter greatly in the scope of eternity. Those concerns were almost instantaneously placed into proper perspective.
A terrible collision took place that day, a collision that would result in over thirteen surgeries, more than a hundred days of hospitalization, twelve feet of scarring, limb loss, and ultimately victory through Christ in the pastor’s life. A tractor trailer entered Victor’s lane from a full stop on the shoulder of the highway. When Victor applied his brake to avoid it, another tractor trailer, this one speeding and tailgating, pushed Victor’s small truck over eighty yards into the first with a devastating force. He found himself in a pile of crushed and twisted metal pinning him from the waist down, shattering both of his legs instantaneously, and fighting desperately for his life. He prayed what he thought would be his last prayer, but a mysterious voice spoke to him with a simple instruction…”Just keep breathing”. Professionals agree that Victor should have died three times in the collision, but God’s plans for him were different.
The collision and its aftermath changed Victor’s life forever. His personal experience of the miraculous grace, love, and sufficiency of God when his world fell apart is a story so moving that it changes others’ lives forever as well.
